The Captain Takes a Wife

A young teacher named Sarah, who is running away from an arranged marriage to a cruel man, runs right into the arms of Captain Harry Richardson as he prepares to board a train leaving Macon, Georgia, in 1875. Harry is a handsome man who carries his Bible and his sidearm in a worn, leather valise. He fought on the side of the Confederacy until he was captured at Missionary Ridge, and he spent time in a Northern prison, but was released when he agreed to go West and fight the Indians with the US Cavalry. Now that his military service is over, Harry is back in Georgia, starting a new life. He has just completed a theology degree at Mercer University and is on his way to the isolated north Georgia mountains to serve as a circuit riding preacher. But first, he has to survive this journey and protect Sarah from hired gunmen who are determined to kill her. It is a journey that will change Harry’s life forever, and he learns that even when you start a new life, there are some things you can’t leave behind.
